Habitat
Sea Turtles are large turtles that spend most of their lives in the seas. They live in shallow coastal waters of warm seas.
Diet
Most sea turtles are carnivores (meat eaters), but the green turtle is an herbovore (a plant eater that eats sea grass and algae). Most sea turtles eat crabs, lobster, shrimp, and other shellfish, jellyfish, Man-of-War, and small fish.
Movement
These cold-blooded animals are strong swimmers and good divers. They cannot
pull their head and legs into the shell. During active times,
turtles must go to the sea's surface every few minutes in order to breathe air.
Description
They have four flipper-like legs and a shell that is attached to their backbone. These turtles come in colors from shades of brown to green to black. Sea turtles vary in size from 2 to 6 feet long, weighing 78 to 1900 pounds.
Enemies
The biggest danger to sea turtles is humans. For a long time, they have been hunted for their meat and their shells. The number of animal predators for sea turtles gets smaller as they get older and bigger. The new younglings are the one most commonly attacked. On land they may be consumed by foxes, dogs, birds, raccoons, crabs, lizards, and even dingos. It will really depend on what is found around their habitat. In the water sea turtles have to worry about sharks and whales. While they do have protective shells, both sharks and whales can bite through them without any problem at all.
