Habitat
Sea Lions are found in bodies of water all over the world, but not in the Atlantic Ocean. Some Sea Lions live in the sub-arctic areas while others live in warmer climates including California.
Diet
They feed on more than 50 kinds of fishes and other sea animals, feeding mostly on squids, octopuses, hake, northern anchovy, opal-eye, and herring.
Movement
Sea lions can rotate their hind flippers forward to walk on land. Sea lions move their front flippers in an up-and-down motion to swim.
Description
They have long torpedo shaped bodies that move well both in the water and on land. They have ears that look like flaps. The Sea Lion has long flippers in the front and then shorter ones of the back. Sea Lions can be dark brown to a dark gray. The young are brown with the females being much lighter than the males. When they are about six months old, that brown color starts to turn into a shade of gray. Some of them are so dark that they may even appear to be black.
Enemies
Sea Lions really only have two predators that are other animals – Killer Whales and Sharks. When they have to go further out into the waters to find food then they are more likely to find such predators. Humans have been the biggest predator of the Sea Lion for a very long time.
